In Loving Memory of Onyx Culpepper-Boyd

Onyx Culpepper-Boyd was born on October 15, 2012, in Baltimore, Maryland, and departed this life on August 25, 2026. She was adopted as a young puppy from the BARCS rescue shelter, but in many ways, she was the one who rescued everyone by blessing her family with 14 wonderful years of love, laughter, and unforgettable memories. Throughout her life, Onyx called four different states home, but wherever she was, she made sure her family knew she was right there with them.

Onyx was the boss, and she had no problem letting everyone know it. She would tell you what to do and tap her feet to boss you around. She often kept her three siblings, Sid, Opal, and Okie, in check and was not above giving them a quick smack with her paw or throwing her body between them when rough play got out of hand. She also had stare-downs and growling matches with her nephew Max every time he came to visit because he thought he was in charge of the pack. Of course, Onyx always proved him wrong.

Onyx loved car rides and sleeping in bed with her parents, Courtney and Craig, stealing pillows along the way. She would lie on top of anything soft, including laundry, whether it was dirty or clean. She could always be found under her mom’s desk or right next to her mom’s office chair whenever she was working, making sure she was never too far away. Onyx loved to push open bathroom doors, always looking for you and making sure she knew where everyone was. Onyx would bring you her toy but had no intention of sharing it, and if you ignored her, she would throw the toy right at you.

Onyx leaves behind to cherish her memory her parents, Courtney and Craig; her siblings, Sid, Opal, and Okie; her grandparents; her aunts and uncles; her nieces; her nephew born this year; and her cousins. She also leaves behind the memories of the special friends she made along the way, including Kodi, whom she met and played with, and the love she would have shared with Nala, her nieces, whom she never had the chance to meet.

Onyx crossed the rainbow bridge surrounded by the love of the family she so faithfully watched over.

She will be remembered for her sass, loyalty, loving spirit, and the unforgettable way she made her family feel protected, entertained, and deeply loved.
